Eligibility:
  • 1. Express an interest to earn an associate degree in a STEM discipline, with the intention to complete a B.S. in that discipline. Eligible disciplines are: biological sciences (except medicine and clinical fields), information systems, computer sciences, computer technologies, mathematics, materials science, engineering, physics, chemistry, and earth sciences (geology, oceanography, astronomy or meteorology).
  • 2. Complete the 2012-2013 FAFSA form. (www.fasa.ed.gov/). The scholarship that you receive will be determined based upon your financial need, which will be determined using the data in your completed FAFSA form.
  • 3. Be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen admitted as permanent resident or refugee.
  • 4. Live within the Waubonsee Community College District.
Scholarship Open for International Students: No
Scholarship Description: 
This scholarship is provided to talented, full-time science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) students who demonstrate financial need. The scholarship is made possible by a grant from the National Science Foundation. High school seniors living in Waubonsees district or current Waubonsee students who have completed at least 24 college level credit hours by the end of the spring 2012 semester are eligible to apply. Applications will be considered based on the following criteria: academic program, educational goals, grade point average, quality of essay and campus/community involvement. Scholarship applications will be reviewed beginning Feb. 20, 2012, and will be accepted until all funds are disbursed. Applications are to be mailed to David Voorhees at the Sugar Grove Campus. Application decisions will be announced starting April 11. Additional applications may be accepted after April 11 if funding remains.
